My Summer Vacation

We just spent a relaxing week in New Hampshire. It was nice to be in a place without internet and just enjoy some simple things like swimming, kayaking and catching up on some reading. The weather actually cooperated (there was an incredible lightning storm one night) and we were able to be outdoors without being rained on.

Hopefully, everyone gets a chance to take a little break from work and enjoy the final days of summer with their family and friends. The picture of the kayak is from the pond that we spent most of our waking hours at.

Meet Zippy!

I wanted to share with you one of my favorite images from one of our recent dog sessions. Meet Zippy, a beautiful and very friendly Doberman Pinscher! Zippy had many incredible images from his session, but I really love his profile and his alert gaze.
Zippy brought back memories for me, as my family had a Doberman named Heidi. This goes back aways to the 70's & 80's. She was a great dog and I hadn't thought of her recently until Zippy came to see us.

An afternoon at Blithewold

I'm siting here at the computer because we got rained out again. This June has been brutal for outdoor sessions so I thought it would be nice to take a look at a recent session where the sun was actually shining. This video is a look at Eva & Elsa, two sisters that had a great time that day and look beautiful in their traditional Chinese dresses.

This session was at Blithewold in Bristol, RI. If you have never been there, you need to put it on your list of places to visit this summer. It is one of the most spectacular locations in this area. We are offering some special sessions this July at Blithewold, call 401-245-5713 for more details.

Beach Bums 2009

Last year we launched our "Beach Bums" promotion for kids from infant to 12 years old. It was a lot of fun, so we brought it back for the summer of the '09.
Meet us at a local beach, Wednesday mornings July 1st - July 23rd. There's only three sessions each morning- so if you are interested, give us a call today at 401-245-5713. The session fee is only $29.00 if you book by June 25th ($39.00 after that date).
We'll provide the props (bucket & shovel, sand castle, etc.), you just bring the kids!
Any outfit from a dress or shorts to a swimsuit works just fine! Check out more images at www.scottsylvia.net/beachbums.

Meet Oliver

My daughter Lauren has been begging for the last year (maybe longer) for a small dog of her own. We were a bit reluctant since we already have a six year old Airedale Terrier. Some of you may have met our dog Max and he's definitely not a lap dog, although he tries to be.
Persistence pays, as Lauren finally wore us down and a new puppy has joined the family. Oliver is a Yorkiechon (that's the fancy name for a Yorkie - Bichon mix) and is twelve weeks old. His hobbies are eating, jumping, waking at 5:30 a.m. and of course annoying Max. But who can resist that face?

Talking to myself?

Just a quick note to let you know that I have dropped the Senior Blog, as most of the high school seniors tend to check in on the latest news on our Facebook page. This blog will remain up and running, and I will on occasion post pictures and info geared toward the seniors here, as well as the usual info that is aimed toward the children and family side of our studio.

I recently heard another photographer say that when he referred a senior to his blog, the kid replied "isn't a blog when old people talk to themselves?" I hate to admit it, but the kid may have a point.

I'm not ignoring you.

I just discovered yesterday that any new emails sent to me over the last week or so have been bounced back. There was a little glitch between the web host and the email provider, it's all corrected now. However, any emails sent during that time are lost. Please, send me another email if you have not heard back from me. Really, I'm not ignoring you.

Proofreader wanted!

Our recent mailing for the Baby & Child contest had a great little cover model, Jackson (see his video on the blog below). However, the fact that the contest rules on the back of the card were all scrambled, somehow got past me.
Perhaps, sleep deprivation or I just plain old messed up. Anyway, here's the cover and the contest rules. The contest is still going on, so give us a call at 401-245-5713 and join in on the fun!

P.S. Stayed tuned for some of the entries in this year's contest.

I Think This Commercial is Hilarious!

Whenever this commercial gets recorded on the DVR between shows, I always replay it over (& over), which tends to irritate others in the room. So, I figured I would post it to the blog and on those days when I need a laugh, it's just a mouse click away.

Baby Models Wanted.

We are looking for babies (between six months to three years old) and their hats! The babies coming in and out of the studio with their winter hats on are so cute that we thought it would be fun to do a special one day featuring kids wearing all kinds of hats. It can be a winter hat, baseball hat, Easter bonnet, cowboy hat- you get the idea. All models will receive a free session and a complimentary 5x7. If you are interested just contact us by March 15th at scott@scottsylvia.net or call us at 401-245-5713.

Winter Break

We took a little time off this school vacation week to spend time with the kids and family from Florida. We went to Lake Placid for some skiing (we should probably have gone to Florida instead), the conditions weren't great but it was still a good time!

Your Thing Part 3

Soon the Boys of Summer will take the field (at least we hope it will be soon, enough of this cold). There's nothing like a little baseball on a warm summer night to help pass a few relaxing hours. Here's a little video to help get us through the winter. For more details on our Your Thing promotion, please visit our specials page.

Your Thing Part 2

This time it's the ladies' turn. Three sisters have some fun practicing their ballet moves.
The Your Thing session can feature any activity that your children enjoy! We  realize that just as many girls enjoy hockey, karate and other sports as they do ballet, so there is really no limit to the possibilities. Check out our Specials page for more details.

Dog Show

Max The Airedale here with a brand new video of some of my friends. A few of my featured friends were photographed at the Potter League in Middletown, Rhode Island and are available for adoption. They may have found new homes by now, but I'm sure their are other great dogs and other pets available. Their website is potterleague.org.

If you have not seen their new facility yet, you should pay them a visit. It is absolutely incredible and the staff is really nice!

P.S. The Airedale featured in the video is not me, it's my sister Ruby!

Let it snow

It seems this winter I've spent more time behind my snow blower than my camera. When I bought this a few years ago at the end of a warm winter it seemed like an extravagance. However, this year when I step out to a foot of snow on my driveway I feel like a genius. It sure is a lot easier on the old back than shoveling. Gotta go, I think I just saw a few flakes drift by the window.

Every Little Bit Helps

During the course of the year we are asked many times to donate to silent auctions for schools, church and temples, and for charities. We are always happy to help if we can, so please give Barbara a call at 401-245-5713 if we can be of service.

It's amazing how much money can be raised by the end of the night at auctions or silent auctions. Everyone seems to enjoy the friendly competiveness of bidding on that item or basket that they just can't live without, and in the end it's for a good cause.
